* Ronnie Underwood, Jr., 18, escaped detainment at the Graham County Sheriff’s Office. After getting roadblocks in place to keep Underwood from leaving the county, a few unsuspecting people were arrested for outstanding warrants. Underwood was finally caught at his girlfriends house and was jailed at Swain County until trial.

* Robbinsville basketball took wins over Murphy to end the first round of the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament, as the Lady Knights held on to win 66-62 and the Black Knights finished their game with a firm 78-62 victory.

Jan. 18, 2001

* Stanley Furniture cut employees back to four days a week, due to a sales slump. Stanley had added about 55 employees and increased production by 10 percent the year prior. This layoff was only for six weeks.

* The Robbinsville wrestling team defeated Rosman 46-36. The Black Knights started off with a 30-point lead. This was the first win of the season for Robbinsville; it was also a historic individual win for Daniel Findley, as he won the 100th match of his career.

Jan. 18, 1996

* The second major snowstorm in a week brought more snow, more power outages, more time off and sledding. Snow drifts ranged between 10 inches in Robbinsville to 24 inches on the mountain tops. At least 300 homes were without power at some time during the storm.

* Everything just seemed to come together for the Lady Knights at Nantahala, as they collected a 67-41 win over the Lady Hawks. Each Robbinsville player scored at least once during the game; Pam Beasley was the high scorer, with 21 points.
