JV Black Knights look to wrap up division title
Hayesville – A win tonight would achieve something that the JV Black Knights football program has not accomplished in quite some time.
In fact, the last time Robbinsville (5-1) ended its season as the sole owners of the Smoky Mountain Conference championship, most of today’s players were still in diapers – and the chances are that a few were not even born yet.
The 2010 campaign ended with a perfect 8-0 mark on the year and on the highest of notes: a 31-6, title-clinching victory over Murphy.
Since then, the Black Knights have won several “extra” games and tiebreakers to claim a piece of the pie, but outright? With no qualifiers?
Head coach Wren Millsaps likes the sound of that.
“Our boys have had one goal and that is to be sole conference champions,” said Millsaps. “The goal for this week is to finish the deal and bring the Smoky Mountain Conference title back home to Robbinsville.”
The latest drubbing Robbinsville has administered was a 27-6 triumph at Hayesville on Sept. 21, which featured Cameron Allison striking for two rushing touchdowns; a pick-six; and a scoring pass to Xamuel Wachacha, who also kicked a successful PAT in the game.
Standing in the Black Knights’ final goal is a 6 p.m. appointment today at Swain County. The Maroon Devils edged Robbinsville late in the 2022 pairing, 12-8.
