Paul Newton Riddle, 94 and a native of Graham County, went peacefully to be with our Lord on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 23, 2022 at his residence.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years stationed in Italy during World War II. He was formerly employed at AC Lawrence Leather Co.

A member of Lake Junaluska Baptist Church, he enjoyed family gatherings, working in his yard and doing woodwork which he shared with his family. Also in his later years, he enjoyed watching the redbirds at his feeders.

Paul is survived by his devoted wife of 74 years, Ellovee “Ella” Mauck Riddle; sons, Jerry Riddle (Marta) of Canton, Stan Riddle (Anne) of Clyde, and Ronnie Riddle (Thomasine) of Sylva; daughters, Linda Aldredge and Lena McMillan, both of Waynesville; brothers, Steve Riddle (Opal) of Robbinsville and Dee Riddle (June) of Georgia; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, John Riddle and Maude Wiggins Riddle; eight brothers and four sisters; as well as a granddaughter, Brandi Riddle and an infant daughter, Wanda Riddle. Paul was a devoted family man and he will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022 in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations, with the Rev. Chris Willett officiating.

Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home chapel.
