Olen “Tucker” Long, 77 of Robbinsville, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, at Angel Medical Center in Franklin, N.C.

He was a native of Graham County and the son of the late Johnny Luther and Lille Mae Campbell Long.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Frank, Johnny, Carl, Lincoln, and Jay Long; and sisters, Lenore Kolac and Maudie Sue Hill.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis “Jean” Carpenter Long; daughters, Jeannie Long Bentley of Cleveland, Tenn. and Lisa Long Henry of Franklin, N.C.; grandchildren, Julie Ann Bentley of Cleveland, Tenn., and Kaitlyn Henry and Samuel Alan Henry of Franklin, N.C.; sisters, Glayds Thein of South Port, N.C. and Mable Pridemore of Point of Rocks, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.

Tucker, as he was known, was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He will be remembered for his love of his family and grandchildren, watching the University of Connecticut girls’ basketball games and his willingness to lend a helping hand to others.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a 51-year member in good standing of the Robbinsville Masonic Lodge #672, but most importantly, he was a Christian.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 in the Townson-Smith Funeral Home Chapel. The family received friends from noon – 1 p.m., prior to the service. The Rev. Mickey Stewart officiated.

Masonic Rites were conducted by Robbinsville Lodge #672.  

Burial followed in the Old Mother Cemetery, where Military Rites and Flag presentation were conducted by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard.
