John Alvin McRae, 67 of the Atoah Community in Robbinsville, N.C., passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, after a short illness.
John was born Dec. 31, 1954, at the Parrette Clinic. He was the son of Leoah Icenhower McRae and the late Huel McRae.
John was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Baby McRae.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marcella George McRae; his daughters and their husbands; Carrie and John Stewart of Robbinsville, N.C. and Sarah and Brent Howard of Springfield, Va.; brothers, Norman McRae and wife Linda of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jeff McRae and wife Claudia of Murphy, N.C.; along with several nieces and nephews. Left behind are his grandchildren, the four loves of his life; Blaine Stewart, Mahala Stewart, Liam Howard and Henry Howard.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 22, 2022 at Cedar Cliff Baptist Church. The Revs. Daniel Stewart and Jack Millsaps officiated. The family received friends for one hour prior to the service.
John loved to support the nation of Israel, St. Jude’s Children Hospital; the Shriners Hospital for Children, the Baptist Children’s Home and the need of local children.
