Bruce Johnson, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 31, 2022, at his daughter Patricia’s home in Robbinsville, N.C., where he had been living since 2019

Bruce was the son of I.B.D. and Ruth Johnson and grew up in Somerville, Ala. In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his wives, Frances, Barbara and the mother of his children, June Driver; his son Kenneth; brothers Paul, Evon, and Loyd Johnson; and sister, Elizabeth Patrick.

Bruce is survived by his daughters, Patricia J. Johnson and Sarah Johnson Sims; grandsons, Jeremy Sims and Daniel (April) Johnson; granddaughter, Amber Johnson; brother, Harold (Mary Ann) Johnson; a host of nieces and nephews; many friends;  and his constant companion dog, Buddy.

Bruce and his first wife June lived in Hartselle, Ala., where they raised their family, and owned and operated a professional photography studio in the 1960s and 70s.

In the 1980s, Bruce moved to Memphis, Tenn., where he and Frances were married until her death in 2014.

In 2018, Bruce and Barbara were married. After Barbara’s death in 2019, Bruce moved to Robbinsville to be closer to his daughters.

Bruce loved his family and enjoyed photography, humor and quick wit, music, movies, art galleries, symphony orchestras, and taming wild birds to eat out of his hand.

He had an especial affinity for bluebirds and was known as “the bluebird man.” He designed and produced a line of bluebird houses and feeders, and started a company known as The Lucky Penny, which he later sold.

The family will hold private services and burial will be in the family cemetery in Somerville, Ala.
