* Graham County native Donna Burchfield was hit with a counterfeit-check scam. Being a criminal justice student, Burchfield immediately searched the internet for confirmation when she received her check in the mail. After speaking with a fraud investigator, she learned that the check was certainly a scam – not only in the county, but many other areas.

* Josh Crowe scored 25 points to lead the Black Knights to a 58-54 win over Hayesville and the Smoky Mountain Conference Tournament title. It had been 16 years since Robbinsville stood in the winner’s circle in the conference. Both the JV girls and boys also won the tournament championship.

Feb. 22, 1996

* Already estimated at $172,350 in storm damages, the numbers on the widespread effects across Graham County were climbing daily. The county’s rescue squad was called in, as several homes were surrounded by flood waters. Emergency management estimated property damage at $400,000.

* The Lady Knights improved their overall record in the conference to 16-14, defeating Swain County 79-48. Crystal Payne scored 20 points with three assists to lead Robbinsville; Melanie Holder had 15 points. The Lady Knights were ranked third in Western North Carolina and eighth in the state.

Feb. 22, 1974

* Through efforts made by county attorney Leonard Lloyd, city/county manager Don Gregory and others, a meeting was held with 75 fuel oil dealers, to discuss the current fuel shortage. By submitting a FEO form 17, Robbinsville would receive 35,000 gallons of fuel – which was expected to get the town through the year.

* The Mountain View girls rallied from a 10-point deficit to win – in overtime – against Sylva-Webster, 56-51. Leading scorers in the Smoky Mountain Conference quarterfinal tournament game were Cindy Williams, 14 points and Nina Yeargin had 13. The score was 47-47 at the end of regulation.
